CitySights New York Unveils Skyroof All-Weather Canopies on Manhattan Double-Decker Bus Tour Fleet

February 15, 2006 by Travel News Editor

New York City Bus Tours See-Through Design Provides Comfort, Views, Hop-On, Hop-Off Service Extended to Upper Manhattan Route in Spring.

CitySights NY, operators of hop-on, hop-off double-decker bus sightseeing tours in New York City, has unveiled a unique, new feature on its fleet to provide all-weather passenger comfort while allowing a full view of the sights along its routes. See-through plexiglass canopies have been installed this winter for protection to passengers from rain, snow, cold and wind, it was announced recently by Mark Marmurstein, the company’s president.

With the combination of the canopies and heating coils throughout the floor of the buses, passengers can expect a cozy, comfortable environment in virtually any weather condition.

“This feature”, explained Marmurstein, “is part of our commitment to providing the best-quality and most enjoyable double-decker bus sightseeing experience possible. The response from the public and travel trade has been fantastic. Even in winter, tourists can now enjoy their sightseeing tour in comfort and tour operators can sell a double-decker sightseeing experience with the confidence of knowing that their clients will enjoy the wonderful sights of New York City in a weather-protected environment.”

CitySights NY operates a brand new fleet of American-made buses, uniquely-designed with seating on the top deck only to offer all of its passengers a grand view of the sites of Manhattan.

The vehicles are equipped with a state-of-the-art public address system with speakers located under every seat, allowing passengers excellent audio reception of the guide narration even in the open air.

Tour routes cover upper and lower Manhattan, passing all major neighborhoods, attractions and places of interest including Times Square, Greenwich Village, Little Italy, Chinatown, Financial District, Central Park, Upper West Side, United Nations, South Street Seaport, Harlem, Museum Mile and more.

The hop-on, hop-off tour of downtown Manhattan currently operates on double-decker buses. The uptown route operates as a fully-escorted motorcoach tour including stops at The Dakota/Strawberry Fields, Grant’s Tomb, Big Apple Jazz Center, and the Museum of the City of New York, the premier institution on the history of the City, housed in a beautiful Georgian-Colonial style building. CitySights NY also operates an escorted night tour on double-decker buses including a stop in Brooklyn for a fantastic view of the Manhattan skyline at night.

Beginning in April, concurrent with doubling the number of buses in operation, both the downtown and uptown tours will operate on double-decker buses with full hop-on, hop-off privileges. The night tour will continue to operate on double-decker buses.

In addition to the basic tours, packages are available including major attractions such as Circle Line and New York Waterway harbor cruises, Liberty Helicopter Tours, Statue of Liberty/Ellis Island ferry, Empire State Building and tickets to a wide variety of points of interest including Harlem Gospel tours, Madame Tussaud’s New York Wax Museum, museums and many more. Through its sister company, Empire Vacations, CitySights NY also offers one-day and overnight escorted motorcoach tours to Washington, D.C., Boston and Philadelphia. A one-day tour by air also is offered to Niagara Falls, with optional overnight packages available.

CitySights NY also has developed a companion tour book which is included in the price of the tour. The book contains information and maps on themed, special-interest itineraries throughout the downtown tour route for New York City history, shopping, culinary, museums, architecture and music.

“New York City has everything, and something for every interest”, explained Marmurstein, “and we’re making it more convenient for visitors to explore places along the tour route that are pertinent to those interests. After all, we’re in the sightseeing business and we believe that enhancing that experience makes it more enjoyable for our clients, on and off the bus.”

Tour guides for CitySights NY have been trained as urban storytellers to provide passengers with fun, lively and entertaining tour narration and will be regularly updated by the company on current activities and events in order to be a full resource to visitors.

Domestic and international tour operators and wholesalers can establish a direct voucher program with CitySights NY, allowing them to free-sell the tours and issue vouchers to passengers before they depart from their homes to New York City.

CitySights NY is part of the New York Airport Service group of companies which includes AirlinkNY, a door-to-door share ride van service operating between JFK, LaGuardia and Newark airports and hotels in Manhattan.
