Traveling to Cebu, Philippines, Queen of the South

February 2, 2006 by Travel News Editor

And indeed, there could be no other else described in the Philippines as such than Cebu, an island inhabited by wonderfully receptive, English-speaking Filipinos who love nothing as much as welcoming tourists who are able to appreciate the beauty their hometown has to offer.

What Makes Cebu the Queen of the South
There are many reasons – or rather, places – why Cebu is given the crown of the South but we shall try our best to enumerate the best travel spots of this particular Visayan province.

Moalbal
This wonderful place, which is less than 90 kilometers away from Cebu City, is widely known for its first class beaches and the highly diverse variety of underwater species it has. If scuba diving is one of your interests, make sure that you take a detour to Moalbal, more specifically, to one of its islands, Pescador Island or Fisherman Island in English.

Magellan’s Cross
Whenever a traveler visits a foreign country, paying respect to any of its historical sites usually tops the list of things to do. In this case, when you travel to Cebu, Philippines, all roads shall lead to Magallenes Street, site of Magellan’s Cross. This cross was embedded on the ground by none other than Ferdinand Magellan himself, a great explorer of his time, to commemorate his discovery of the Philippines in 1521.

Nonoc Cave
Go up a little more than 80 kilometers of Cebu City and you shall find Nonoc Cave, a well-favored tourist spot in Cebu by bathers, nature enthusiasts and picnic lovers.

Celestial Garden
A lot of the best places in Cebu have its roots in Christianity and Celestial Garden, as the name itself implies, is definitely one of them. This exquisite destination features life size statues reenacting for eternity scenes from the Twelve Stations of the Cross. The Celestial Garden can be found in Banawa Hills of Cebu City.

Guitar Factories in Maribago District of LapuLapu City
There is nothing that Cebuanos, as people of Cebu are called, love more than playing with their guitars, hence the proliferation of guitar factories in the city. If you want to see the actual process of how a guitar is made and have one commissioned for yourself, that can only happen in Cebu City.

Getting to Cebu
If you’re planning then to travel to Cebu, Philippines, most major cities of the world have direct flights to Cebu and shall land in Mactan International Airport.

What are you waiting for then? Book a flight to Cebu, Philippines and experience a trip you shall never forget!
