The Brazilian budget airline VRG has added a second European route, a daily flight from Guarulhos International Airport to Paris’ Charles de Gaulle Airport, which then continues on to Rome’s Leonardo da Vinci-Fiumicino Airport. The Sao Paulo-Paris-Rome route uses a new Boeing 767-300ER aircraft. The airline’s first European route offers a twice-daily service to Frankfurt, Germany. Other international destinations are Bogota, Colombia, Buenos Aires, Argentina, and Caracas, Venezuela.
The World Tourism Organization rates France and Italy as two of the ten most popular tourist destinations for Brazilians. Travel from these countries to Brazil is also increasing. In 2006, the country received about 275,000 tourists from France and almost 300,000 from Italy.
According to Lincoln Amano, VRG’s commercial director, “Launching this new route is another important step in our expansion plans.” He added that, “The Company currently operates two daily flights to Germany; with the addition of the Sao Paulo- Paris-Rome route, we are further increasing the number of flights connecting South America and Europe.”
