Finnair will add a daily morning flight from Helsinki to Bangkok starting December 3rd and running through March, doubling its service to Thailand’s capital. The corresponding Bangkok to Helsinki flight has a night departure with a morning arrival in Finland. The additional flights make Finnair the largest peak season scheduled carrier between Europe and Bangkok.
“Thailand’s guaranteed warm weather and swimming waters are attractive to tourists throughout the year, but demand peaks in the winter season, says Petteri Kostermaa, responsible for Finnair’s route strategy and traffic planning.
In response to increased demand, Finnair is increasing service to other Asian destinations, with new flights to the Indian cities of Delhi and Mumbai and the planned addition of a route to Seoul, Korea next summer.
Demand from Sweden has increased by as much as 55 percent relative to the previous year. The new flights to Delhi and Mumbai have been successful, and growth is expected on the newest route to Mumbai. At the same time, Finnair’s established routes to Bangkok, Beijing, Guangzhou, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Tokyo, Osaka, and Nagoya remain popular.
“There are over 200 flights a month from Helsinki to the various Asian destinations,” Finnair’s country manager Riku Helminen in Sweden points out. “This is appealing to customers from both Stockholm and Gothenburg. The stopover in Helsinki is easy and the airport has been voted as one of the best in Europe in many annual surveys. Many companies favor Finnair because we have a modern and environmentally friendly fleet and the shortest, fastest route to Asia through Helsinki.”
