Marriott International opened the Penang Marriott Complex along Gurney Drive in George Town, Penang, in September 2024. The complex is Marriott’s 50th property in Malaysia and the first in the country to place three Marriott Bonvoy brands in one development. Oriental Holdings Bhd owns the project.
The 55-storey tower holds the 223-room Penang Marriott Hotel, the 90-suite Marriott Executive Apartments, Penang, and the 302-unit Marriott Residences Penang. The hotel stands at 55 Persiaran Gurney on the Gurney Drive seafront, about 22 kilometers from Penang International Airport (PEN), according to Marriott’s meeting materials for the property.
Penang Marriott Hotel has rooms with sea and city views. Dining includes Italian cooking at Kucina, all-day local and international menus at Sago, light meals at Lava Java, and cocktails at the Greatroom Lobby and Bar. Hotel guests also have a 24-hour fitness center, a steam room, and an outdoor infinity pool facing the Gurney seafront.
Marriott Executive Apartments Penang is the brand’s first entry in Malaysia. The 90 suites mix one- and two-bedroom layouts with separate sleeping and living areas, gourmet kitchens, fitness and business centers, and staff and security around the clock.
Marriott Residences Penang has 302 units with a 45-meter infinity pool, a communal clubhouse, a gym, and a herb garden. Residents also have concierge, housekeeping, engineering, and 24-hour security. The residences are licensed to use Marriott marks and are not owned or sold by Marriott International.
A launch ceremony on September 9, 2024, was attended by Penang Governor Tun Ahmad Fuzi Abdul Razak, Marriott International board chairman David Marriott, and Oriental Holdings executive chairman Datuk Loh Kian Chong, according to Marriott’s release.
