Al-Jazeera Airways – Flying High

February 10, 2006 by Travel News Editor

In the world of airlines and airline service, bigger does not always mean better. In fact, around the world there are many smaller carriers that have redefined the industry and have instituted a commitment to customer service that puts the larger airline companies to shame. Al-Jazeera Airways is one of these companies.

Al-Jazeera Airways is based out of Kuwait City in Kuwait and is a pioneer in many respects as they are the Middle East’s only fully privately funded airline. This was an amazing accomplishment and what started out as a dream of the Boodai Group (a business group which includes Boodai Construction & engineering, City Bus, and Boodai Travels) is now a reality. Learn How To Save Thousands Through Indirect Flights

February 8, 2006 by Travel News Editor

As most of us are no doubt familiar, there is a huge fluctuation in the prices of airline tickets. Depending on anything from season, how well traveled the route is, and other reasons that seem more mysterious, flight prices change constantly and radically. One of the most important things to consider if you’re interested in discount travel is the difference in cost between domestic and international flights, and to use this to your advantage when you want to travel internationally.

In the USA, a typical return flight from New York City to Montreal, Canada, for example costs about $300 for a trip that is just over 1 hour. For roughly the same price, one can fly domestically across the country from New York to Los Angeles – a much longer trip. With very few exceptions, flights are cheaper domestically – they are subject to less taxes and regulations for the airlines, and they are often on more traveled routes so the airlines can afford a discount. Military Discount Airfare

February 7, 2006 by Travel News Editor

In most countries, active-duty military members enjoy discounted airfares. Not only the state-run airlines, but also even most commercial airlines, offer these discounts. This is one way of expressing the gratitude towards those who are serving the nation. For current military personnel, the US General Administration also runs the City Pair program, under which the officials travel on discounted airfares as they travel for official work.

Many commercial airlines offer military personnel special discounts on airfares even if they are making personal trips. Some offer this discount to family members, too. Generally, most of the airlines offering military discounts have a standard rate of discount which is applicable on all routes. They also offer such discounts on international airfares. The rate of discount is likely to be more on domestic than international airfares. [Read more…]

Checking Luggage Do’s and Don’ts

February 7, 2006 by Travel News Editor

As with everything else in life there are ‘rules’ governing the checking of your luggage when you travel. They aren’t real complicated. Rather, they are more like common sense things to do. Paying attention to these tips could make your checking in an easier process.

Do check airlines and other transportation modes to see what their policies are regarding checked luggage and carry on luggage. Most have a weight limit or a quantity limit. Overbooking

February 4, 2006 by Travel News Editor

Overbooking is not illegal, and most airlines overbook their scheduled flights to a certain extent in order to compensate for “no-shows.” Passengers are sometimes left behind or “bumped” as a result. When an oversale occurs, the Department of Transportation (DOT) requires airlines to ask people who aren’t in a hurry to give up their seats voluntarily, in exchange for compensation. Those passengers bumped against their will are, with a few exceptions, entitled to compensation. [Read more…]
