Bangkok Shopping – A Shopping Paradise!

February 11, 2006 by Travel News Editor

Thailand has developed into one of the best shopping experiences in the world and while in Thailand there is no better place to shop than in the capitol Bangkok. It is the Bangkok shopping that brings tourists from all around the world to experience the Land of Smiles and bring back souvenirs and goods from its many shopping destinations.

While there are some duty free places as there are in any country, it is the native Bangkok shopping which is the real pleasure. While there are of course many bargains to be had and this brings a lot of bargain hunters to Thailand for some Bangkok shopping, it is the massive variety of things for sale that is the real gem of Bangkok.

Everything under the Sun from jewelry to brass ware to clothing to electronics… Well, you get the idea. If you love to shop, Bangkok shopping is your nirvana.

There are many great places while Bangkok shopping to find that perfect item you’ve been looking for but let’s take a look at the most popular and best in the city for fantastic deals, great quality, and special hard to find items.

Chatuchak Market

Chatuchak Market is to Bangkok shopping as the Taj Mahal is to India. This really is the grand daddy of all markets and should not be missed while in Thailand. The pinnacle of Bangkok shopping has swallowed up many people and they have not gone beyond this massive market to shop anywhere else.

And why should they? There are literally thousands upon thousands of shops to find goods of all sorts. The only trouble with the Chatuchak Market is that is only open on the weekends from about 9am through 7pm although around sunset the shops start closing.

Mahboonkrong Center (MBK)

So if you are looking for some weed day shopping or somewhere with air conditioning you might want to try MBK for another Bangkok shopping experience. The great thing about MBK is that it is conveniently located at the National Stadium Sky Train station.

Thus MBK is much easier to find and get in and out of while also having the luxury of shopping through hundreds of stalls while out of the hot weather outside. This alone draws many shoppers to MBK looking for a great deal during their Bangkok shopping.

Emporium Mall

What would Bangkok shopping be without a trip to a mall? And the Emporium Mall is one of the world’s best. Not only do you have great shopping here but you also have all the other trappings of a great mall such as events and shows as well as some great place to catch a bite to eat.

Another great reason to shop at Emporium is that by just being a tourist you can get a 5% discount by applying for a discount card at the information desk at the main entrance. Just show your passport and you are all set for some discount Bangkok shopping in style!

Siam Paragon

Another mall choice, and a good one, in the same shopping district is the Siam Paragon mall which is one of the newest in country. This mega mall will complete your Bangkok shopping experience.

Siam Paragon was just opened in late 2005 and is truly world class shopping. There is everything in this grand mall and should make your Bangkok shopping experience truly an experience to remember. There is even an IMAX theater in Siam Paragon and don’t miss out on the Thailand’s largest supermarket on the ground floor in Gourmet Market. If it is not in there, it is not in Thailand!

With those four areas covered you can’t go wrong with your Bangkok shopping trip.
