View the entire length of the Blue Ridge Parkway. Plan your next trip!
April 4, 2001 - BOONE, NC: A virtual tour of the Blue Ridge Parkway has been released at http://www.virtualblueridge.com/. Virtual Blue Ridge provides the opportunity to view the entire length of the Parkway. According to the National Park Service, the Blue Ridge Parkway is the most visited National Park.
Using the latest technologies, this web site features free Parkway postcards, a custom trip planner, weather section, downloadable information about the Parkway (maps, bloom calendar, road closing, etc.), screen savers, and soon an online store (camping, hiking, and skiing equipment).
The Virtual Blue Ridge CD-ROM is being sold online and in retail stores around the Blue Ridge Parkway. Its content allows visitors to share the scenery and features that the Blue Ridge Parkway has to offer.
Starting from Skyline Drive in Virginia and ending on US 441 near the Cherokee Reservation, users are able to view overlooks, trails, waterfalls, and even plan their next trip to the Blue Ridge Parkway with a custom trip planner.
Virtual Blue Ridge was formed by a partnership to endeavor to share and protect the beauty of the Blue Ridge Parkway. Located in Boone, N.C. the partnership consists of David Lee Davis (Creative Director), Johnathan C. Hill (Marketing/Advertising Director), and Joe Veler(Information Technology Director).
Virtual Blue Ridge donates 5% of their sales from the CD-ROM to the Blue Ridge Parkway Foundation, a non-profit organization, formed to help preserve and maintain the beauty of the Blue Ridge Parkway.
