SEA KAYAKING & WHALE WATCHING - SAN DIEGO

Outdoor Travel Adventures, a San Diego based adventure travel company, is offering a unique way to view the annual Gray Whale migration in January and February - board a kayak and paddle out from our own La Jolla Shores. This half-day adventure is perfect for the San Diegan looking for a hassle-free outdoor experience with a small group of locals.

The day begins at 9:00 AM with an instructional briefing by a certified kayak guide before gearing up in a wetsuit. We navigate our kayaks through the surf and paddle in the direction of the migration, where we can expect to see an incredible sight. We spend about 2 ½ hours on the water before paddling back to shore for a well-deserved lunch around 12:30 PM. The adventure comes to an end after lunch.

The massive Gray Whales migrate between their summer feeding grounds in the Bering, Chukchi, and Beaufort Seas to their winter breeding grounds off Baja California, Mexico, passing San Diego on the way. More than 23,000 Gray Whales travel 5,000 miles along the west coast from December through April each year, making it one of the longest migrations by a mammal species.

Cost is $89 per person and includes all equipment, lunch, and services of a certified kayak guide. Group size is 6-12 people. Dates currently scheduled are January 6 & 20, February 3, 10 & 24; additional dates may be added on request. Travel agent and direct client bookings welcome.
